Jim Shaw Left Behind
Published on the occasion of the exhibition at CAPC, Bordeaux, from May to September 2010.
Jim Shaw began the series of monumental paintings entitled Left Behind in 2004, when George Bush's re-election bid was in full swing. As well as being an immense tribute to painting and culture in general, this ambitious work is above all a critical diatribe against simplistic, one-dimensional discourse and the standard, reassuring rhetoric Jim Shaw sees as being conveyed in political posturing, the media, and advertising.
