Judith F. Baca Authentic Sneaker for Vans x MOCA
From our collection to yours
Vans and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles are two institutions that encourage the expression of creativity, and are committed to making creative expression accessible to everyone. This season, Vans and MOCA are proud to collaborate on a collection of footwear and apparel that celebrates creativity with California roots.
An ambitious, utopian, and international project, The World Wall: A Vision of the Future Without Fear, by Chicana muralist Judith F. Baca, is rooted in the philosophy that in order to achieve world peace, we must first be able to envision it. Baca painted the first four ten-by-thirty-foot canvas panels; as the work traveled abroad, between 1990 and 2014, artists and community groups from Finland, Russia, Israel and Palestine, Mexico, and Canada contributed five additional panels, employing figurative and symbolic visual vocabularies to depict a vision of the future without fear. The Vans x MOCA Authentic highlights one of these panels. Titled Triumph of the Hearts, Baca’s artwork depicts the beginning of any movement of a society towards peace: the individual taking action.
The Vans x MOCA Authentic is made with sturdy textile uppers. This low top, lace-up shoe also includes metal eyelets and signature rubber waffle outsoles.
