Dyke Deck: Thirtieth Anniversary Uncut Sheet Poster
Dyke Deck: Thirtieth Anniversary Uncut Sheet Poster
Details
This 18 x 36 inch poster replicates Catherine Opie’s Dyke Deck: Thirtieth Anniversary Edition as an uncut sheet of cards, presenting the full 54-card set in its complete layout.
First released by MOCA in 1995, Dyke Deck features highly stylized portraits of Opie’s queer community—both friends and strangers, including participants from an open call in San Francisco. Each suit represents a facet of identity and connection: Couples are Hearts, Jocks are Clubs, Femmes are Diamonds, and Butches are Spades.
Printed at full scale, this special edition transforms the deck into a single visual field—an artwork in its own right—revealing the relationships and rhythms between portraits as they were originally conceived. Both a celebration and a document, the Uncut Sheet Poster honors the enduring legacy of queer visibility, intimacy, and self-definition in Opie’s work.
