Produced in a limited edition of 150, this chair unites Barbara Kruger’s incisive text with Modernica’s iconic Case Study® Collection, a landmark of California modernism. It transforms an everyday object into a work that invites reflection on consumption, desire, identity, and power, hallmarks of Kruger’s practice for more than four decades.
By placing her unmistakable language on a chair designed for daily use, Kruger extends her decades-long examination of how words and images shape our understanding of the world into the domestic spaces we inhabit.
Since 1989, Modernica has handcrafted its fiberglass furniture in Los Angeles using the original techniques developed in the mid-twentieth century. Each chair is individually built up from layers of fiberglass and pigmented resin, resulting in subtle variations in fiber pattern, translucency, and tone, so no two chairs are exactly alike.
Proceeds from this collaboration support exhibitions and public programs at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA).
Limited edition of 150. Individually handcrafted in Los Angeles.
