In 1976 the artist Joey Terrill produced a series of hand-drawn T-shirts to be worn at that year's Pride parade. Reclaiming the words malflora, a Spanish slur for a lesbian, and maricón, slur for faggot, each shirt marked the individuals as a "rolemodel" through bold block lettering on the back.
Made by EVERYBODY.WORLD in Los Angeles from 100% recycled cotton.
Produced in conjunction with Axis Mundo: Queer networks in Chicano L.A. presented at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, September 9 through December 31, 2017. Organized by ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives at the USC Libraries.
