This catalogue accompanied the exhibition Cotton Puffs, Q-Tips©, Smoke and Mirrors: The Drawings of Ed Ruscha, on view at MOCA October 2004 – January 2005.

In this first major retrospective of his drawings, this American master depicts Hollywood icons, gas stations, apartment houses, and renderings of words and phrases in countless stylistic variations. Organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art by independent curator Margit Rowell, the exhibition featured 250 of Ruscha's most important works on paper dating from 1959 to the present.
