Charles Simonds: Mental Earth Growths and Smears

Charles Simonds: Mental Earth Growths and Smears

Essay by Arthur C. Danto

This catalogue accompanies an exhibition at Knoedler & Company, November 3, 2011 - January 14, 2012

Charles SImonds is featured in Ends of the Earth: Land Art to 1972, on view at MOCA May 27-August 20, 2012.

Simonds became well known during the early 1970s by creating miniature, site-specific "dwellings" out of clay, and putting them on the windowsills of abandoned buildings on the Lower East Side. This exhibition catalogue is the artist's first in New York in a decade, and features somewhat less referential objects that are likewise made of clay, along with pieces in porcelain and one large hanging work made of polyurethane and paper.

Softcover, 55 pages / 9"x11" / illustrated throughout.
